Who Are We?
For the first time in years, I am feeling a disconnect from this hockey team and it's a bizarre feeling. After so many years of being so close, believing that one quick fix is all that was needed to get us over the hump, a scary reality is sinking in. Who are we?
No longer are we plucky underdogs. Nor a fast, young, hardworking team. Nor a tough team no one wants to play. Players like Stajan, Kotalik, Hagman bring neither the ability to scare an opponent with their skill or their physicality. Honestly, even our dear Captain looks as if he is losing the former as well.
On defense, Bouwmeester is one of the best one on one defenders in the game, but his offense has to improve. Giordano has to maintain his upward swing and Reggie needs to bounce back or else we are in trouble. Oh yeah, and we have to figure out Ian White's place/pay scale on this team.
In goal, we are set. Miika is still one of the best in the game and shows no sign of slowing down.
I can't get over the thought that all we will see this off-season is minor tinkering. Sure, we may win our share next year, but right now I look at this roster and honestly don't really like this team.
Aside from Iginla, Miika, Bourque, Regehr, Gio, Backlund who elicits any kind of loyalty or pride? Who getting moved would truly upset you?
To me, there are almost more players on this roster I would like to see leave than stay and I can't remember the last time that has happened with Calgary.
The disconnect is happening and there's a certain rebuild out East that continues to pique my interest. Please Darryl, don't drive me to the dark side.

It is prtetty depressing
but this team no longer has an identity or a seeming need to push for wins. I am sure they are pushing, but it just no longer looks like the team that re-captivated a lot of the city and the country in 2004.
Everyone underachieved outside of RBQ, Gio and Kipper.
Asking for a bounce back from everyone will be a bit much, but Iggy, Lanks, JBou all need to improve this year and I’m not really ruling out the possibility of a Marc Savard coming here don’t know what the numbers would be but Regehr is for sure involved in it.
I'm CofOranje for the next month.
HUP HOLLAND HUP!
Apparently Savard has only waived his NMC to go to Toronto or Ottawa. Looks like the Leafs have the Bruins in a tough spot if they want to shed his salary.

Under/over
I would suggest that the 3 you mention might have overacheived. Kipper’s season was significantly better after 3 straight years of decline. How long he hangs in there before the slide resumes remains to be seen.
Guys who achieved where we thought they should be were : Glencross, Pardy, Dawes, Conroy and Nystrom.
3 of the 4 best players ( and highest paid) Bouw, Igy and Langkow underachieved relative to their career averages. Only Bouw is on the right side of the career sweet spot in terms of age. The next 2 highest paid guys ( Regehr and Sarich) also were’nt up to their career average contribution; and are also on the other side of the career performance mountain.]
All in all not a pretty picture.
