One Round in the Books

I'm not a draft junkie by any stretch, and living in the southern US means I don't see any Canadian junior hockey.  So, I don't know much about these guys, to be honest.  And, nothing happened during the first round to make me take any particular notice.  Other than the fact that only two of the six Canadian teams actually made a draft pick.  I mean, those poor teams that knew before the draft they had no first round picks - the Leafs who only have Phil Kessel to show for losing out on Tyler Seguin and...uh...the...uh...Flames who uh...have...uh...never mind.

Feel free to comment on how boring that first round was, or if you have something more interesting to add, all the better.

All of the clips they showed for Johansen were of him with the play dying of his stick. I thought that was weird.

Speeds or YKOil from the Oilogosphere commented on how between Niederriter and Johansen and Guy #3 on their line (can’t recall atm) there is probably one guy driving the results more. So likely one of these highly drafted picks will bust in a big way, for riding on the coattails of a better talent. Context of icetime matters, who knew.

I was dearly hoping the Oil would pick Seguin. Hall has had more years of high performance, that matters a ton when we’re talking about teenage play where the window of evalatuing players based on their results is only a few years. Hall is probably the real thing, while Seguin could have had a lucky year (though this is not necessarily so).

Piss-off. Still, the Oil can still screw this rebuild three ways to Sunday, there’s plenty of time and precedent for that

Doug Wilson has also been really fucking terrific so far, no?

The Marleau contract is fair and the Pavelski deal was freaking terrific. He got lucky with Pavelski to begin with, of course, but damn the guy’s making bricks without clay*.

*Sherlock Holmes was a fucking terrifically entertaining movie

Couldn’t believe the Pavelski deal. He’s a player, and that’s a nice long term deal the Sharks signed him for.

One last thing.

I don’t want to be all “bite the hand that feeds you” but the MSM, especially the FAN960 live broadcast, completely let me down today.

The only reason I have to listen to them is for them to break news for us but damn Twitter with Lebrun and Bob Mac was just as good and fast, and I was hoping they would be on top of some Flames rumblings.

Maybe that’s too much of an expectation but they have the all-important ACCESS.
