Playoff Open Thread: Blood in the Water

SAN JOSE, CA - APRIL 16: Patrick Marleau #12 of the San Jose Sharks enters the ice against the Colorado Avalanche in Game Two of the Western Conference Quarterfinals during the 2010 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs at HP Pavilion on April 16, 2010 in San Jose, California. Having missed most of last night's playoff action, I was delighted to hear that my adopted team had laid a smackdown on Roberto Luongo and his cronies, and even more so when I learnt that it was largely at the hands of Dustin Byfuglien while playing on a line with Jonathan Toews, who got me three points in my playoff pool. Tonight, the Sharks have a chance to finish off the Red Wings (TSN)  in what many people are saying could be Nik Lidstrom's last game should Detroit be eliminated. Personally, I know quite a few people who will be eating their words should the Sharks advance. In Montreal, the Pens look to take a 3-1 series lead on after a convincing shut-out victory over the Habs on Tuesday night (CBC). It looks as if Pittsburgh will be welcoming Jordan Staal back into their lineup while defenceman Jaroslav Spacek could return tonight for Montreal. After losing game three at home to Hamilton Bulldogs, the Heat look to even up the series tonight, starting at 8PM MT/7PT [Preview].

Enjoy tonight's games everyone.

The ’Nucks and ’Hawks last night was fabulous. I especially loved how I could hear my neighbours cheering when Vancouver scored, and they could undoubtedly hear me when Chicago did :D

It might only be 2-1 for the Pens after 20 minutes, but the Habs are very clearly outclassed in this one. They don’t even look like they belong on the same sheet of ice.

Go San Jose! I am so ready to see Detroit stumble, even if it means death in my playoff pool.

Heh. Shows what I know. The Habs managed to claw their way back in, and while I’m not exactly surprised that the Wings will take this one, I expected it to be another close one.

Dammit, I was really looking forward to writing a Wings eulogy! I guess that’s what I get for my premature gloating.

Yeah, I caught Bourque’s goal but not much else, I think the final score was 5-1 Canada?

Yeppers. Actually a pretty good game-you could tell in the first that the guys hadn’t had much time together, but by the 10 minute mark in the second, they were gelling quite well.
