Sutter talks White, Nystrom Negotiations
"We have his [White's] rights for one more year either through arbitration or actual negotiation. That’s something we’ll work on in the next month."
"I wanted him [Nystrom] to get back from the world championships, I spoke to him on Thursday. He’s back in the U.S. We have to work at it."
"We didn’t make the playoffs, so we’re going to look at different areas where we think we can upgrade or how we can upgrade, whether it’s through the free agent market or our own unrestricted guys."

I’m liking the way Sutter has started this second run at life.
Nice to see him touching on most issues.
Where the Windsor Spitfires destroy the WHL.
Could you imagine if Sutter actually said what he meant? That would be mind-boggling.

it’s not the content of this article, but the headline in the calgary herald that made me spit venom.
The content is filled with bullshit and sophistry as well. I’ll have more to say on that today I think.
It is, and it’s almost a carbon copy of his end of season press conference, which is why I chose to ignore most of it. I don’t want to be completely apathetic, of course the repetition of this stale crap makes me angry, but I just can’t seem to get especially worked up about it.
WI why doesn’t your website allow people to read let alone comment on black berries? Its the only blogger website I have that problem with

hm….. i have no idea. i would suggest that it’s pro bettman and therefore anti ballsillie but since that’s not at all the case i’ll have to investigate. which basically means i’ll ask a couple of my nerd friends and if they don’t know i’ll pretend you never inquired.

If the goal is be in the top third of the WC next year then I think the roster as-is could do it. Nothing’s guaranteed but it’s a reasonable expectation.
If the goal is to be competitive for the next five years, well nothing suggests that there is a difference maker in the pipeline on the level of Iginla-of-old.
Then again, five years is a long time and the arrival of difference makers is a more than a bit unpredictable.
And as far as an actual suggestion as to what moves Sutter could make to improve the five-year forecast, well I haven’t seen one good suggestion other than (ironically) Lawrence’s Iggy trade proposal. Even then some particularly bright minds thought a return of 1st round draft picks would somehow shed light on the bleak future.
If you ask me I sense a lot of baseless vitriol. Not that Sutter doesn’t deserve some vitriol directed at him but I myself prefer to have some reason that is rooted in reality.
The pendulum of public opinion seems to have swung the other way on Sutter, helped all the more by his sneering condescension. He previously operated under the blanket of blind devotion, but that can last only so long when the results don’t match expectations.
Have you seen The Man That Would be King?
Yeah. Sutter’s previous carte blanche wasn’t really merited – I liked his moves to get Langkow and Tanguay but then turning around and jettisonning the latter was unforgiveable.
Haven’t seen the movie/book/story. Cliff’s Notes version?

1975 film based on a Kipling short story.
Basically, two 19th century Brits set out to india in search of adventure/riches/etc. One of them becomes the God/King of a tribe of indigenous people after being struck by an arrow during a battle (which he pulls out, unharmed, due to some buckle or piece or armor under his clothes). He takes to the role but is eventually revealed as a fraud when he’s injured and bleeds (meaning he’s mortal and not a god).
The people are outraged and condemn him to death. They gather him up at the end of the film and throw him off a cliff.
Not as funny
Except the Sutter brothers are not nearly as funny as Connery and Caine in that movie !!
