Heat Eliminated
The Abbotsford Heat have been eliminated from the Calder Cup playoffs after a 4-0 loss to the Bulldogs in Hamilton. Considering how many injuries they had to deal with over the course of the season and the post-season, it was a small miracle they ever made it this far. This season was a big improvement for the Flames' AHL affiliate in their first year in Abbotsford, and hopefully it'll only get better with the infusion of some young talent.

New flames ?
Obviously Backlund and Sutter will be back with the big Club. Matt Pelech may be ready; but only if one ( or more) of the existing veterans ( Sarich, Staios, Regehr) are moved. Seabrook a year younger, so another year on the farm won’t hurt him. Is Shantz ready to backup Kipper ? He may be the guy based on salary only.
An all rookie line of Wahl, Bouma and Nemisz will be interesting for Abbotsford next year, as well as this Cameron guy. I think the Heat will be a pretty young team as the parent club may give up on Chucko, van Der Gulik and not resign the likes of Jaffray.
Brett Sutter is an RFA and I can’t see him not getting a new contract considering how well he played in the post season and the time he spent with the Flames. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him up with the big club full time next season. Jaffray still has another year left on his contract, but I’m not sure about Chucko/Van der Gulik. Shantz has been good, but I’d still rather see the Flames go after an older “more experienced” backup. There will be quite a few decent UFA goalies out there this summer.

Go Hitmen, Heat, and whoever's playing the Canucks
I’ve spent the last little while trying to figure out who the Heat’s free agents were and it is proving to be a very difficult task.

I’m not crazy about giving Dwayne the pageviews, but this list should cover things.

Hedberg or Nittymaki wouldn’t be too shabby at all.

Crushed
No words explain how badly I feel. I’ve been a diehard Heat fan for as long as I can remember.

I see you’re in good form in the event of a Blackhawks win tonight. Excellent.

I didn’t get to watch Sunday’s game, but I watched both Friday and tonight in my ’Hawks shirt in pubs full of ’Nucks fans, and it was fabulous! I am so so so glad to see this team eliminated. I am half-tempted to go into the local shops and ask if I can have Canucks car flags at half-price, then write “GO HAWKS” on them and fly them for the next two weeks :D
No not really. Don’t need to be a prick and get banned. I want to post comments there next year.
