When Jarome Iginla was asked what would happen if the Flames wanted to move him, he said this: "If they don't want me here and they want to move in a direction or rebuild or believed they could do better, I would look at it. Absolutely." Reaction around the league: He wants to go.
That and more about the Flames in Friedman's weekly feature; take it for what you will, I suppose.

i think this is a hell of an unanswerable question, and no matter what jarome says he’s effed: mats sundin said he would refuse to waive his NTC and he was vilified for being selfish…. sheldon souray said he’d waive if it was good for both him and the team (ie: what jarome said, ie: an honest answer) and it was instantly assumed he wanted out. it’s a no-win situation and i think jarome said the only thing he could…. to read into it any more than that is ludicrous.
in saying that, i have heard jarome isn’t happy here. ;)
You want to know why he wants to go? Cause he’s sick and f’ing tired of playing for Daz. Probably has been for years but is being diplomatic about it as usual. He knows nothing will get better as long as that guy is in charge.

I wrote a full(er) post on this at my place, but basically this is bad news for us, regardless of what Iggy actually meant, if people around the league really think he wants out.
why? cause the other teams are now making offers that are enticing to daz?

Basically:
1.) Lowers his selling cost
2.) Makes Calgary less attractive to current and future free agents.
Ya i mean Jarome was a big part in drawing free agents, when we signed JBo i heard an interview on the Fan and he said he called up Bouw and tried to convince him to sign with CGY and I guess it helped.

that’s why I think Jarome needs to stay and Daz has to go…the whole atmosphere has become mediocre and negative…there aren’t much positives to draw from. another thing hurting the flames (free agent wise) is fact you know the the jokers and dions of the world aren’t exactly painting a rosey picture of how things are run at the saddledome.

in truth, i’ve got a very good buddy who works at the ‘dome and doesn’t exactly paint a rosey picture of how things are run there.

The most interesting part of this, to me, is that people around the league are taking this to mean Jarome wants out (assuming that Elliotte is right about that). That particular quote, while accurate, skews more to him wanting a change alone than it does taken in context with the rest of the interview. He obviously isn’t saying, “No way, I’m staying put regardless,” but he’s also not saying he wants to go elsewhere. In short, he’s saying exactly what he needs to say, and thus, in my opinion, none of us have any better idea of what he’s likely to do after the comments than we did before.
Totally agree. The idea of Jarome wanting to leave because he’s unhappy…hey, it’s possible, but I doubt it. I know many people agree with the idea, and many disagree with the idea, that Jarome should be traded because it would be better for the team, but all the other stuff, it’s all pointless to entertain if you ask me.
I’m certain that if Jarome goes, it’s only in the instance where the GM, the President and Iggy himself all believe the move would be better for both Iggy and the Flames. Any other combo, it doesn’t happen. He’s Jarome Iginla not freakin’ Gary Leeman.
Jarome leaving would be terrible
If he goes though, that has to signal the full fledged rebuild, meaning that Sutter has to go as well (so there would be a small positive in all of this).
Iginla loves Calgary, he wants to win, he needs someone that will feed him pucks, I think he should take a cut in pay if he really wants somebody. 7 million is alot of money, unless he’s been livin the life of Theo, he should have enough cash to be fairly comfortable, he should take half his salary – we’d have a lot more to work with come FA day.
Jarome didn’t say he wanted out. In fact, he pretty emphatically said he wanted to stay with the Flames. What he said is that if the team felt it would be better without him and asked to trade him, he would respect their decision.
Somehow every media hack in Canada decided that meant he wanted out. But I guess they have to fill their newspapers / magazines / etc. with something. It’s not like there’s anything else hockey-related they could be focusing on instead, is there? I mean, the Maple Leafs aren’t in the playoffs so what else is there to talk about?
I applaud invisible’s take on this – if pulls a Mats Sundin he’s a jerk, if he pulls a Heatley/Souray he is also a jerk. Instead he is honest and realistic and people read controversy in to it anyway . No controversy here, just honesty. The only hidden message that Jarome might have is a message to others on the team with NTC’s: “I’m the captain and I’m willing to go if it is best for the team in the long run; so you’d better be willing to as well;”
Despite ther bad record by management over the past 14 months; I believe them when they say they will examine everything and everyone and a possible trade of Jarome will be one of the scenarios they will examine.
