Around SBN: Welcome To A Bizarre Afternoon With Donald Driver

Some interesting sound bytes came out of the Flames' dressing room on garbage bag day. One of them being that Mark Giordano will play for Canada at the World Championships (no word on Bourque yet, but he said he'd be thrilled to go if asked) and the other being that Eric Nystrom suffered a groin injury in October and wasn't healthy until after the Olympic break, explaining his good play early in the season, after the break, and the 43-game goalless drought in between. He said he'd like to be back next season but "it's a two way street" and that he hasn't engaged in any contract negotiations as of yet. Same goes for Chris Higgins and Ian White. Read the quote sheet and listen to the exit interviews on the Flames website and the Fan 960

It will be sad if Nystrom isn’t brought back.

He can make and break a fourth line a very intricate part in any hockey team’s success and Eric is the main reason on most nights the 4th line dominated the other 4th line.

Stunning

Chris Higgins was snubbed by Team USA for the Olympics, but it is even more profoundly shocking to see he hasnt been named for the USA World Championships squadron.

Is Ron Wilson the head coach for the WC’s as well?

From what I’ve heard, Higgins doesn’t have the best rep.

"Where do you go from here, Dion?" "I go to Toronto."
Spreading that Calgary Flames, Montreal Expos, The U, and Orlando Magic love.

Nystrom: posturing for a contract (from anyone)? I mean he has to justify his inconsistent play in a contract year other than chalking it up to the fact he played for the Flames.

I like Nystrom. He will never be a superstar, but when he’s playing to his potential (and not injured), he can be a useful depth player.

Dreger says that Bourque is “committed” but doesn’t mention GIo on the blueline, so not sure whether he means “says he’d go if asked” or “was asked and has agreed to go.”
