Backlund was a beast! In his first game back since being reassigned to Abbotsford for the Olympics, the Vesteras, Sweden product pumped in his 11th and 12th goals of the season, racked up eight shots on goal and finished with a +2

I’ll be seeing the Heat on Saturday here in Boston! My first time seeing the Flames 2 best prospects: Backlund and Chucko.

Whoops, meant in Providence, where Boston’s farm team is. My bad y’all.

chucko, along with most of the team, is currently injured.

Chucko? Really?

As poor as the Flames prospect pool is I wouldn’t put Chucko even remotely close to “best”.

Just a bit of tongue in cheek. I don’t think even Darryl thinks of Chucko as a prospect anymore.

Who are Barlow and Weller and why is Backlund playing on a line with them? Oh well, I suppose it beats playing him with Watt and Grantham.

So I hear. Still doesn’t explain why one of the few legitimate offensive threats on the team is playing with loaners and PTO’s. On the otherhand if it forces him to make 8(!) shots on net I suppose it may not be a bad thing. I guess I just don’t understand Playfairs thinking on his use of Backlund in the A.

On a side note according to CapGeek the Flames have signed Josh Meyers (Training camp invitee) to a two year EL deal. Must have impressed folk with his play thus far this season.

Well the Flames could use a few more defensemen in the system…

It sounds like he’s played very well since they started losing bodies back there. I also think Darryl would get the shakes if he didn’t have at least 15 D in the organization.

Har, someone should really do an intervention with him on that some sort of 12 step program for d-men addiction.

In all seriousness, the Flames have 6 d-men whose contracts are up at the end of this season so he’s probably just getting a jump on replacing one of the org. depth guys (Palin or Cole most likely).

this quote annoys the hell out of me, partly because i’m tired, partly because the author didn’t take the time to spellcheck “västerås,” and partly because duncan wrote a really good post on the game over at mine.

Good to hear Duncan liked his performance too.
