do you give brent sutter 3 years to give this team a cup?
in my opinion you give Sutter only a window of 3 years to get the flames back to the Stanley cup. now with the trade yesterday of Phaneuf to the Leafs it frees up room for the flames to go after free agents in the off-season and with the possibility of Joiken getting dealt to the rangers i believe that gives them more room to operate with the cap. i think they need to find a suitable back-up goalie that compliment kippersouff so that he does not have to play up to 65 or 70 games a year. maybe take a Martin Biron or a Ray Emery. so are my thoughts, what are yours?

A Cup? No, he can stay 3 years and beyond even if we don’t win the Cup. Really, while the Stanley Cup is the ultimate goal it’s a pretty harsh standard to hold a coach up against. Don’t get me wrong playoff success is the barometer by which Butter will be judged but I can’t say that I’d be calling for his head if he can get us deeper then the last couple guys.
I don’t think putting a timeline on Brent Sutters tenure as head coach would be a smart move at all. In order to make a coaching change in the NHL you would need a suitable replacement that is proven to be a better coach than the one you currently employ. The Flames have tried the revolving door of coaches in an effort to unite this team and it has proven to have little effect. Currently we have a coach with a history of success at almost every stop in his career. I think it would make more sense putting a timeline on an Iginla trade. There are already signs of him taking that downward post 30 slide similar to Marcus Naslund in Vancouver, why not look at trading him while he still holds some value. Move him out of Calgary the same way he was brought in, trade him for Calgarys next potential captain. I’m not saying by any means of doing this anytime soon, but measure his play over the next few years, and find an opportune time to do the best thing for the teams future.
