Sooner rather than later...

The best option for the Flames to address two glaring holes or two serious needs (half empty or half full?!) is to dial up Jim Rutherford in Carolina and make the inquiry about Manny Legace and Ray Whitney.   I could rifle off a list of players I would be willing to part with that would match most of yours.  If the Flames are to fuck up make the playoffs,Kiprusoff needs a break after the Olympics.  If Ray Whitney can get 40 pts. on the shittiest team in the league, he should be able to feed Iggy or the Sex Panther for a few genos.  Thoughts?

Yes to Whitney, no to Legace. I honestly don’t Manny is an NHL goalie anymore.

Problem being, Rutherford knows a lot of teams want Whitney and he’s going drag things out in order to up the demand.

Agree on Whitney… love to have him, but so would everybody else so we likely can’t afford him. I sort of disagree about Legace, sure he may not be an NHL goalie anymore but McEllhiney hasn’t seemed like he’s ever been one. I’d rather have the guy that was then the guy who might never be. That being said I’d only ever want Legace if he were free… I suppose I might part with a 6th round draft pick for him but not much else.

Legace is known for blowing up in stressful situations. I don’t normally put much weight on that type of stuff, but watching him melt down against EDM a couple of years ago and then talk about hanging himself in the media…

If Kipper goes down, you’re not in capable hands with Legace. His ES SV% is superior to BacElhinney’s though.

My ES SV% is hall of fame compared to McElsomethings. We are talking road hockey too?!

I’m kind of hoping that Finland is upset in the round robin so that Kipper gets a nice week long break….but that’s just me.

Me too I could care less about Joker though.

At least it's not 97-98.

What we have to trade

We may have a trade happen, safe to say it will be for a top defencemen. Hopefully, we would recieve a first round draft and a decent younger forward. What other teams will want will be a franchise defencemen like Phaneuf, or Regehr or Bowmeister-provided they have salary cap room. San Jose might be a inter-division trade partner which would be interesting-but a bit of a long-shot-they do need another defencemen. Devin Setoguchi a 1st round 8th overall pick would be nice-would they give him up for a bonafied defencemen? We need a young player like Setoguchi who is from Alberta by the way. The idea of a rental player is great for a team on the way to the Cup, not Calgary who has slipped to the middle of the pack. Personally I think its time to rebuild. Find some draft picks and younger players for some veterans. Face it we are not going to win a Cup with the present line-up.
