Mikael Backlund Blog
Backlund seems to have his own blog (warning: translation required). Not sure how often he'll update during the season, but it'll be interesting to follow if there's at least semi-regular posts.
The latest one, I believe, says he's being sent to Abbotsford.

Flying tomorrow and then it will be to chase an apartment and get into town and I submitted.
Tran Fonts said that I was close but I have to work on some things and that they would rather see me start saongen with much ice age instead of 4e line in the NHL.
Google Translate would suggest your surmise is accurate, although if shep_ is around, he’s welcome to confirm the details. It’s the right move, because as the team apparently told him, he needs to play a lot in the AHL. 8 minutes a night in the show won’t help. 20 minutes a night in all situations on the farm will. He really would have had to light it up to stay, and he didn’t. If he has a strong first half. maybe then, but right now this is a good move for him and the team.
I also see in the comments that Google Translate appears to convert Jokinen to “wildcard”. Pretty sound player assessment, I’d say ;-)
i think we might have a new and very seriously awesome nickname, there….

Apartment hunting in Abbotsford.
Pretty clear cut sign that he’s going to the AHL. I’m happy the Flames are going to be patient with his development.
Spreading that Calgary Flames, Montreal Expos, The U, and Orlando Magic love.
sweet.
well he says hes moving to abbotsford to start the season in the ahl.
he’s disappointed but understands that its good for his development. the coaches said he was pretty close to make the team but has some things to work on and playing 4th line in the show is not as good for his development as playing alot in all situations in the a. he’s going to work hard an hope to be called up.
he’s flying there tomorrow and will try to find some place to live and try to get to know the team.
will write more when he’s settled in and has a computer with access to the internet
saw tim erixon play a bit in the sel premiere btw.
first impression is good. looks a bit like a-fence or tom gilbert to me.
good passing skills, pretty mobile, poised for such a young guy
If he turns out to be like Tom Gilbert, that would be pretty darn good, shep. That guy’s a very smooth hockey player, even if he’s an Oiler ;-)
Thanks for the update.

if he turns out to be like a-ference (is that who you meant ?) then he’ll probably meet david suzuki and try to make the world a better place…. also, he’ll be hated by his own fans. ;)
