Sources tell TSN that Brent Sutter is in the final stages on the details of an agreement to become the next head coach of the Calgary Flames.
He is expected to be named in the near future.
This should come as no surprise to readers around here, but confirmation is still newsworthy. Post your reactions!

Devils fans will be pissed, justifiably, imo. And Canuck and Oiler fans will hurl whatever vitriol they can to mask the fact that they are scared of what a coach like Brent could do with this roster. But when you look at what Brent has done throughout his entire coaching career, there’s little doubt that we will be getting one of the best coaches available.

That they’re all so mad is a good sign. They wouldn’t care (or they would laugh) otherwise.

Am I the only one who really thought he was going to go back to Red Deer?

I think so, although it wasn’t an outlandish presumption.

I think if Keenan had been retained, he certainly would have done so.

Not surprised
Not sure anything can be done with the current roster to get more out of them. Flames need a surprise stepping up of someone to contribute enough (on defense and in the top 6 forward range) to get good enough to get into consideration (not a favourite at all, just in consideration) in the west again.

If he sucked, you wouldn’t be wasting your time trying to convince both us, and yourselves, of that.
His record speaks for itself, including a ~.625 career winning percentage in the NHL, and winning a division title despite losing the best goalie in NHL history for most of the season.
