Around SBN: Off Tackle Empire interviews Rich Rodriguez

Today is the day

Ownership meets today and will (amongst other things), decide the fate of the coaching staff. Who deserves to stay, who deserves to go? It seems that Sutter will be safe (deservedly or not), but how about the rest of the bodies that are in charge of an ailing team as the season went on (injuries are not the whole story), a regressing Kiprusoff, and a (so-called) Power Play?

Leave your thoughts or predictions if you like, but I guess we will know within several hours who will be in charge of the underachieving hockey team we know and love as the Flames.

It’s hard to predict because, frankly, I dont know what half the coaching staff does. What exactly is Preston’s body of responsibility when it comes to the Flames, for example?

Were I to guess, I’d say the staff is going to get a semi-gutting at least. Keenan and Sutter will stay, but none of the other bench bosses are save.

Preston's job

Wearing contrasting-colour blazers, providing useless-to-incomprehensible answers during mid-period interviews, making the head coach feel good.

i would think that sutter will stay, and clean house underneath keenan (who will probably, and disgustingly, also stay). in the monday presser, it seems that sutter’s biggest beef with the team was goals against, and the overplaying of his starting goalie; which makes me think it’s POSSIBLE that the entire coaching staff will get a makeover.

though i didn’t think so before it, monday’s presser made me realise it’s time for Sutter to go. like Keenan, Sutter’s unapologetic attitude and often delusional assessment of this past year pisses me off as a fan and offers me little hope for next season. i would much rather hear him say that chocking down the stretch with the amount of talent on this team is unacceptable and that personnel changes are needed – and yeah i realise that ain’t his style but a modicum of accountability would nice. here’s hoping ownership puts on some pressure.
