Word is circulating that Calgary has signed RFA Kyle Greentree. Nothing on the terms yet, although I would assume a two-way deal slightly above his previous dollar figure (735k).
Acquired for D Tim Ramholt last summer, Greentree was a major asset for the QC Flames this past year, scoring a team (and franchise best) 39 goals and 76 points in 79 games. Unlike Kris Chucko, Greentree continued to put up numbers after Jamie Lundmark got called up by the big team late in the season. Good news.
The 6' 03" winger was a free agent signing by the Flyers in 06/07. Greentree spent his amateur years in the NCAA, where he put up lackluster stats until his final season (21-21-42 in 39 games). In his sophomore pro season with the Flames last year, Greentree took a sizable step forward over his rookie effort (24 goals and 48 points in 72 games played). While the 25 year old is obviously not a bluechip prospect, the fact that he's moved his PPG pace from .66 to .96 in a single season is a big arrow pointing in the right direction (late bloomer?). I think he has an outside shot to make the big club this season.
