I was told by a good source recently that Jim Playfair plans to seek a head coaching job elsewhere next season (be it at the NHL or AHL level) and won't be returning as the Flames "associate coach".
I don't know what can or can't be blamed on Playfair from this past year. I know he apparently "managed the defensemen" under Keenan and I know I didn't like him as a head coach, but that's about it.
The one thing I'll miss about Playfair is the fact he was perhaps the lone Flames staffer that didn't treat the media (and, by extension, the fans) like idiots. His interviews on the FAN960 in particular were frequently interesting and peppered with actual information (rather than placation and sophistry).
It woudn't surprise me if the rest of the Flames assistants get their walking papers this summer as well...
