For the past few years we've been told that 'the Flames are built for the playoffs. And yet we can never get past the first round. So what happens, we fire the coach. And yet it was mismanagement by the GM that caused the team to be short handed for the last couple of weeks of the season. A team that had a big lead, way out in first place, and they lose the lead because the GM spent to the edge of the cap and they couldn't field a full roster.
So they lose first place, losing home advantage in the playoffs and tiring our players, leaving them more likely to be injured and too tired to put out a decent in the playoffs. Adding in that not having the horses to clinch first forced the team to play their star goalie every day and tiring him. To me the mismanagement of the salary cap, by itself, should be grounds to fire the GM. Several years of telling us he's building a team for the playoffs and failing just adds to why he should be fired. But it won't happen. You gotta wonder why.
