Flames AHL Prospect Update
My article on Calgary's AHL futures is up over at Hockey's Future. Not a lot of good news, I'm afraid.

re: Backlund

Huh?
30 pts in 28 GP for Kelowna – then 23 pts in 19 playoff games incl the Memorial Cup. This season’s output in Abbotsford might be a little behind schedule … but the guy is 20 yrs old, and last year’s totals look far from ‘lackluster’.

Take a look at his stats from Vasteras, which is referenced earlier in that section. They’re abysmal. He played well in the dub, but he was 20 year old on a very good team (playing with current NHLer Jamie Benn, no less) versus teenagers.
Wasn’t he 19 for most of his time in the dub, I’m almost certain it would be what they refer to as his 19 year old season? Regardless, I don’t think he disappointed last year, and I think it’s unfair to grade his year a failure based on his time in Vasteras… unless you watch alot of Swedish Hockey to somehow grade Vasteras.
