Lundmark shows the kids how it's done (about the 2 minute mark).

Now that is a highlight reel worthy goal.

love the incoming elbow too.

that should be a suspend-able offense. sure, it didn’t connect. but it’s there and Lundmark is lucky it did not connect.

I was thinking the same thing. The action should be suspendable, regardless of result.

Nifty move though.

The Marlies don’t even do well in Toronto. One wonders if the AHL is a viable business in any form.

Here (Winnipeg) and Hershey for sure, Kent. I’d guess Manitoba’s nightly ticket revenue is at least 200-250K, or about 8-10 million a year, which is maybe 1/6 of what Calgary would do, but the salaries for 23 AHL players likely wouldn’t top 3-4 million a year, even with a one-way contract or two on the books. It was public knowledge here that Manitoba paid the Canucks the whole of Jason Krog’s one-way deal last year, around 600k, and they didn’t even blink. The team is an absolute gold mine for Mark Chipman and the True North people, and they own the rink as well.

Abby’s likely in a tougher spot, because I’d guess ticket revenues are half of what the Moose pull in. The one thing I don’t know is exactly how the financial arrangement works between every NHL club and it’s affiliates. That might affect how stable a franchise is. The other thing to consider is that an AHL team might have a good arena deal that allows it the concession and parking rights, and with how low salaries are in the A, it might not take a full house to make a go of it.

I’ve been to several games. I have a quarter seasons ticket book.

The rink is barely 1/4 full, at best. Not sure why, the hockey isn’t quite NHL level, but it’s fast paced, and super super fun to see. Tickets are waaaaay cheaper, the baby flames are someone to root for when Calgary is 1000km’s away from Vancouver, and you can get front row seats fairly easily. I have a blast everytime I go. I’ve got a group of 10 or 12 of us going to the Moose vs Heat game in january, and even wives are coming along. The Heat play entertaining hockey.

The Abbottsford community is starting to embrace them as well. It’s a third, roughly, of the way through the season and there are some genuine fans at the games, outside of opposing team fans and the 5 Flames fans that show up.
