No. I’ve been in Winnipeg since early ‘06, and I haven’t been in Calgary except to change planes since I was a kid back in the ’70s.
i’m amused by this. for no real reason other than you (and RO as well) are so well matched…. ;)

is this the right time to talk about the johnson-pardy pairing ? i think i like johnson pardys. toobad i never get invited to any.
JohnsonPardys aren’t my personal thing, but I’m a tolerant person of other people’s, uh, interests, so comment as you see fit, wi.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 4:45 PM PST up reply actions
i mentioned it last week but forgot about it til my roommate reminded me tonight. he’s been out of town and when i told him sarich was out, he was like “JohnsonPardy ?…. is it a johnson pardy ?”

See, that’s the advantage of an online alias. This way, you’re just an anonymous type admitting that. When I say that sort of thing around here, it’s real ;-)
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 4:47 PM PST up reply actions
yeah. i only keep to the alias because i’m still holding out hope to get a real hockey job someday. i interviewed for the entertainment coordinator for the flames a few years back. that’s probably the closest i’ve gotten.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 4:52 PM PST up reply actions
When I saw the horseshit thrown at you over at PuckDaddy, I could hardly blame you for staying more or less anonymous, whether you want a career in the biz or not.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 4:55 PM PST up reply actions
hahahahaha, yeah. that’s a prime effing example of why i’m glad people weren’t googling my real name and throwing eggs at my house. :P
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 4:56 PM PST up reply actions
I’ve mentioned this about the comments at Yahoo before, but I see how the commenters at Dr. Saturday’s college football blog react to Holly Anderson’s columns there. “Dumb girl” is the nicest thing more days than not. You might get that sort of thing in other places, but the big media sites always seem worse, and anyone who has ever read a major newspaper’s comment sections can likely attest to that.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 5:02 PM PST up reply actions
Better for the blood pressure not read comment sections on any place that isn’t hitthpost or m&g… :) (certainly dont read the comments on mainstream media sites… shiver)
i have to admit i like reading them, but mostly just to see how ridiculously skewed peoples’ views can be…. the puckdaddy thing SHOCKED me, though. i really didn’t see it as a hot topic article (save from the word “sexism” but that was ALLLLL wyshynski) and every single person i’d talked to thought it was a stupid marketing decision to not make the retro-throwback in ladies cut. but whatever…. next year i can get my #11. i probably won’t want it anymore.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:13 PM PST up reply actions
Can’t object to that period. Not much finish, but only 5 EV shots against is pretty good, road or home.
a goal or three would’ve been nice. typical jokinen fan on an open net ? check. A-typical iginla fan on an oddman rush ? check. [that WAS iggy, wasn’t it ?]
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 4:51 PM PST up reply actions
Yeah, it was. It might have been in his feet a touch, but he usually handles those.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 4:52 PM PST up reply actions
so the two things i wrote on the previous thread that are deserving of note here:
1. i think tonight we get to find out if noodles is, infact, the reason behind the goaltending upturn. i’m hoping the answer is a resounding "yes."
2.and a third talking point: struggling goaltenders seem to find their mojo v. the flambés for some reason. i’d expect quite a good outing from mason, though i hope i’m overthinking things. ;)
I said last year to a couple friends that I really thought that Kipper had been on a downward slide throughout his time working under Marcoux… with the exception of learning how to poke-check on breakaways.
Noodles is great.. Heard an interesting interview with Kipper where he said that Noodles knew more about trends of different guys shooting habits then anyone he’d worked with.
wow. i didn’t really think he was smart, i just thought he was fun. ;)

does it annoy anyone besides me that 9 times out of 10, dion will take the point shot on his first possession on the PP ?
like the one he’s coming off of (fingers crossed) ??
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:15 PM PST up reply actions
Nah, he used his mind to make that guy fall over.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 5:17 PM PST up reply actions
hmm, apparently I shouldn’t include right angle brackets…
I also said
waits for the flames to prove him wrong
i wonder if that means it’s written in invisible font ?
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:20 PM PST up reply actions
decode that shit so it doesn’t totally screw my team. ;)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:28 PM PST up reply actions
how about this:
this is one of the better 2nd periods we’ve played this year… ]waits for the flames to prove him wrong[ ???? ;)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:34 PM PST up reply actions
maimster: i un-jinxed it here. then the flames were able to pour on the goals and backelhinney was able to shut the door.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 8:55 PM PST up reply actions
it was the reversey on the right-angle brackets. remember that for next time. ;)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 8:57 PM PST up reply actions
i see that now…. two colour guys ? is that weird ?
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:30 PM PST up reply actions
she’s improved. she’s definitely better than when the cbc gave her a shot at it a couple of years ago.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 8:56 PM PST up reply actions
she DOES have an alias !!! she goes by “cassie campbell-pascale.” hahaha soooo undercover. ;)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 8:58 PM PST up reply actions
i KNOW !!! when i get married i’m gonna go by walkinvisible-giordano.
haha. just kidding.
(it’ll be wi-forsberg)
;)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 9:00 PM PST up reply actions
i’m perfectly okay with that kind of trouble, fyi….
;)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 9:03 PM PST up reply actions
i’m not sure i agree with this statement. see my comment below.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:33 PM PST up reply actions
this is actually EXACTLY why backelhinney has such terrible win/loss stats. it’s SO not his fault but in the 2nd game of a b2b, the team just lets him down.
um, i thought he looked pretty effin’ good up until that goal. and let’s just say that it wasn’t exactly good defense out front, and that the flames are certainly prone to giving up two in quick succession these days…. (on kipper too)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:36 PM PST up reply actions
He’s made a bunch of GREAT stops tonight… one bad goal, and one you can’t fault him on at all. Nash scores that first one 70% of the time regardless of goaltender.
The Nash goal is no problem. Methot’s was lousy, right through him. The team hasn’t kept, either. It’s an all-round thing.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 5:35 PM PST up reply actions
Nice play by Reggie to get it out…
WI, if you were right about an elbow injury you can’t really tell from his play that I’ve seen in the last couple weeks.
100% right. i didn’t see it with my own eyes but i fully trust the guy that did. reggie did some photo shoot and apparently his elbow was ENORMOUS. also, i’m told, he was very nonchalant about it and said he’d had it before lots of times.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:37 PM PST up reply actions
Boy, in retrospect (which is all I have, since I have to watch tape delay so I can have a normal meal with my visiting parents), you guys were making some supreme jinxes in this thread.
good point. yeesh. thank god for backwards right angle brackets, hey ?
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 9:02 PM PST up reply actions
Normally saves that stuff for Detroit.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 5:39 PM PST up reply actions
We were dominating…..9 SA until McL pulled the seive treatment. Someone needs to kick the sh*t outta Boll.
hm. i guess the 10 shots against after that are probably backelhinney’s fault, hey ?
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:47 PM PST up reply actions
No, of course not, but the fact is he didn’t look sharp on either the 2nd or third goal and it’s not like we’re getting dominated. Those 10 shots against were straight forward shots. Either way 3GA on 19 shots just isn’t good enough.
how about the ones that should’ve gone in ? like the nash breakaway ?
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:05 PM PST up reply actions
Of course, it’s a great save, you gotta make those saves. I don’t see that Columbus has dominated play in any way, in fact it looked pretty clearly dominated by Calgary until the second goal.
is it possible that they GOT the second goal BECAUSE they were dominating ?
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:10 PM PST up reply actions
certainly, but the kid was soft on the play… and then again on the second. I believe the second goal was the 11th shot.
i’m not suggesting he couldn’t be stronger, i’m just saying that he gets the raw end of the deal alot of the time.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:26 PM PST up reply actions
I’m going to say he played fine, and deserved the win. We are far to hard on a backup goalie who has to sit 3 weeks and then play. He’s an NHL backup and a decent one.
whoah whoah whoah…… um, if you read the thread above, you’ll notice that i’m the one totally defending our defender. i refuse to be lumped in with this “WE” of which you speak….
ps: there’s nothing on tv other than the current mini-massacre of the oilers, and i’m therefore following you around m&g with nothing better to do. sorry.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 9:06 PM PST up reply actions
That’s OK, I’m enjoying the conversation. And I realized you were backing McE as well, I just love Royal “We’s”…apparently, WE/WI/WEE is the sound of the thread!
….sorry i was in the bathroom.
hunh ?
;)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 9:09 PM PST up reply actions
admittedly he wasn’t great but he also kindof got hung out to dry.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:45 PM PST up reply actions
That was brutal…
I apologize to everyone for my crappy comment above…
How many times can he have bad changes, lose track of when a penalty is going to end, and other dumb mental errors.
Anyways, I’m off to the Mercury for a b-day celebration.
I shoulda left 10 minutes ago, I woulda been in a better mood.
hahahaha well you’ll be sure to be in a shitty mood later cause you’re GOING TO THE MERCURY !!!
;)
have fun.

i have no idea. i just know he’s the elizabeth hasselbeck of the hnic hotstove

ie: he backs up his opinions with the infutible “because it IS” reasonning
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 5:55 PM PST up reply actions
They don’t seem any different than the rest, really. Johnson +3, Pardy -2.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 6:11 PM PST up reply actions
leaves the langkow dawes line against softer comp and liklier to score ?
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:17 PM PST up reply actions
In theory. It does feel like a night where they’re done scoring, though.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 6:19 PM PST up reply actions
aside from 6 on 5. i should write scripts for these games. i called everything from the get-go (except for the prust goal i predicted but hey, you called a conroy tally !).
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:20 PM PST up reply actions
Negative on the Conroy. I don’t do the goal picking deal. That was shep_.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 6:21 PM PST up reply actions
Yeah, and the bench is shorter now. I think Brandon Prust can take the rest of the night off.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 6:17 PM PST up reply actions
he seemed to be around a LOT (to my eye) when backelhinney was making saves. ie: wasn’t preventing shots on net.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 9:08 PM PST up reply actions
Probably true. I thought he stepped up and closed up space pretty well in the neutral zone and near the blue line, which is what I noticed most. Usually, I’m more focused on what the forwards are screwing up (or Dion, because he’s my personal demon) then D when there’s a scoring chance against.
aaaahhh, i guess he’s okay…. plus he’s INTEGRAL to the johnson-pardy. ;)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 9:12 PM PST up reply actions
(i have a feeling i will get alot of mileage out of the johnson-pardy…. it’s like i don’t even WANT sarich to come back !!!)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 9:19 PM PST up reply actions
WI
it’s been a couple years since I’ve been to the mercury. Overall not as good as I remember ( actually downright uninspiring)
by d_p_h on Nov 28, 2009 6:27 PM PST via mobile reply actions
hahahahahah are you on here FROM THE BAR ?!??! that’s rad. respect…. ps: the game is tied now that you’re gone. ;)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:28 PM PST up reply actions
also ? the OLD mercury was awesome, but the new mercury’s terrible. two doors down is the ship & anchor. three doors past that is local 510: both significantly better. :)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:30 PM PST up reply actions
Aware of both. This friend isn’t a ship girl sadly. I like the ship though. We’ve probably
rubbed shouldersbwithout realizing it. Nice win in the SO by jie

i apparently do not understand how goaltender interference works. based on this game and the previous one.
You right in league with 99% of officials, players and fans, wi.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 6:36 PM PST up reply actions
perhaps i’ll spend my day tomorrow trying to figure it out over at my site…
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:37 PM PST up reply actions
You get a Colin Campbell Wheel of Justice in there, and that’s the whole NHL decision making process in a nutshell. Nice one, Res.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 6:40 PM PST up reply actions
They were a lot better than CBJ in the first. It isn’t that far out of line.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 6:41 PM PST up reply actions
hahaha the first was like three hours ago !!!
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:41 PM PST up reply actions
we weren’t good for like TWO HOURS !!!
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:42 PM PST up reply actions
Really, I thought we were better in the 1st and the last 15 minutes of the 3rd, and OT, so I’m OK with taking the points.
okay i was exaggerating. we weren’t good for an HOUR AND A HALF. ;)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 9:14 PM PST up reply actions
maimster: this was an anti-jinx, fyi. :D
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 9:11 PM PST up reply actions
neither is goalie interference, fyi. jeez. keep up. ;)
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:44 PM PST up reply actions
thank god. i only like those endings when theoren fleury scores.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:57 PM PST up reply actions
i wonder what his shootout percentage was in abbotsford….?
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:55 PM PST up reply actions
Yeah, a tie was likely fair. Shots were 32-32, 27-23 at EV for CBJ.
I doubt they’ll throw the fish back, though.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 6:57 PM PST up reply actions
It’s the new NHL though… you need charity points to finish at the top of the standings. Flames have been ungodly on the road so far.
They could have let it go like the Wings did last night, and they didn’t. Good on ’em.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 7:00 PM PST up reply actions
periods of domination by both squads. periods of putrifaction by both squads.
by walkinvisible on Nov 28, 2009 6:59 PM PST up reply actions
“jamie mclennan is the secret to goaltender success in calgary.” ron mclean singlehandedly answers my #1 question above.
I still think Kipper’s at least switched to light cigs and beer, even if he hasn’t cut back ;-)
Maybe Noodles has helped Kiprusoff with positioning a bit as well. Kelly Hrudey mentioned him losing the net every time the subject came up last year, and he seems very sound this year.
by Robert Cleave on Nov 28, 2009 7:04 PM PST up reply actions
he seems to be playing the puck with a LOT more confidence as well…. mind you, noodles was around last year but maybe marcoux was somehow toxic (though he seemed pretty good to me all the time i’d seen him at work in camps n’ stuff). marcoux seems to be bringing carey price’s game back currently but i guess he (price) is pretty hot and cold….. not unlike kipps last year, actually.
so yeah. let’s give noodles some credit. it makes me excited about that joni ortio kid that he’s so jazzed about.
